I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and healthy 2013. As I sit here in my living room writing this post, I’m laughing to myself because it seems to me that, at any given moment, if someone were to look at my coffee table, he/she would see two types of books strewn across it: health and wellness books and cookbooks. Many of them.
It has me considering what it is about health and wellness that I find so inspiring. I think that, for me, health and wellness is tied to every other area of my life. It is really about honoring myself and my body. When I’m taking good care of myself, just about every area of my life is better. When I take the time to make sure that I’m giving my body what it needs – clean and whole foods, exercise, deep breaths, time spent in silence – I feel more centered and patient. Less rushed and anxious. Somehow life seems to slow down a bit and I enjoy it more.
I know that there is much science to support the idea that food affects mood. I’m sure that I could cite a multitude of scientific studies done with data to support this, but for me, it’s very common-sense. If what I eat affects me on a cellular level, why would anyone think that it affects ONLY the cells from the neck down. What about our brain cells? Aren’t they affected, as well??
I find this stuff really fascinating, but my motive for reading and learning is pretty simple…I want to feel good. I want to nourish this body of mine in whatever ways I can so that I have the energy, passion and enthusiasm to accomplish all of my dreams while I’m on this earth. What am I dreaming of accomplishing? Funny you should ask…
I want to develop some cleanses and other online programs to offer through the SiciLean website and I hope to begin work on a SiciLean diet/cookbook. Mostly, I just want to keep spreading my knowledge and information about wellness, and teaching people how to cook in a way that supports their health.
Now I don’t know how much of this can be done in 2013 (they ARE some pretty big goals!), but I figure that if I keep taking good care of myself and I remain focused on learning and sharing, only good things can grow from there.
I invite all of you to join me on this healthy journey and commit to taking care of yourselves, too. Collectively, we have so much knowledge and experience. I know that we can support each other to lead healthier and happier lives.
Many blessings in 2013,
